The U.S. Navy has awarded a $37 million contract to Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) to sustain the production of the REMUS 300 unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), officially designated as the “Lionfish” within military programs.
This funding is intended to secure additional units, spare parts, and technical support for the man-portable, multifunctional undersea drones, which are critical for reconnaissance, mine countermeasures, and hydrographic mapping missions.
The decision to keep the Lionfish in production underscores the Navy’s strategic pivot toward autonomous systems to extend the fleet’s operational reach and maintain a tactical edge in contested waters globally.
