Russia reportedly installed a depleted uranium missile on a Geran-2 drone: elevated radiation levels were detected near the debris, — Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)
Following the attack on the Chernihiv region on the night of April 7, specialists discovered fragments of an R-60 air-to-air missile near the village of Kamka.
According to the SBU, Russia uses such missiles during mass attacks to target Ukrainian aircraft and helicopters intercepting enemy drones.
Gamma radiation levels of 12 μSv/h were recorded near the debris — significantly above natural background levels and potentially dangerous to human health. Examinations showed that the missile’s warhead contained striking elements made of depleted uranium — Uranium-235 and Uranium-238.
The warhead has already been neutralized and transported to a radioactive waste storage facility. The SBU is investigating the case as a war crime.
The SBU also warned that if UAV, missile, or ammunition debris is discovered, people should not approach or touch it.
