U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday through his social media platform that a new military strike against Iran had been scheduled for Tuesday, but he has decided to postpone it for now.
He explained that the decision came at the request of “the Emir of Qatar, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, and the President of the United Arab Emirates.”
Earlier, Trump had reacted to Tehran’s latest response to U.S. proposals by saying that he had no intention of offering any concessions to Iran.
He also warned that Iran knows “what will happen very soon.”
On Monday, Iran announced that it had responded to a new U.S. proposal aimed at ending the war, adding that discussions between the two sides are still ongoing.
In his latest message, Trump wrote that “because serious negotiations are underway, and because our great leaders and allies believe an agreement can be reached that will also be highly acceptable to the United States,” he has decided to delay the military operation that had been planned for Tuesday.
Trump added: “Out of respect for the leaders I mentioned above, I have instructed the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the United States Armed Forces that we will not carry out tomorrow’s attack. However, I have told them to remain fully and immediately prepared to launch a complete and large-scale strike if an acceptable agreement is not reached.”
Trump Says He Will Not Offer Concessions to Tehran
Responding to Tehran’s latest reply to U.S. proposals, the U.S. president said Monday evening that he would not offer any concessions to Iran.
A reporter for the New York Post wrote on X that Trump, speaking after receiving what he described as “Iran’s latest disappointing response” to U.S. proposals, stressed that he would not make concessions to Tehran.
He again warned that Iran knows “what will happen very soon.”
Iran announced on Monday, Ordibehesht 28, that it had responded to a new American proposal intended to end the war, while noting that exchanges between the two sides are continuing.
Senator Graham: America Must Finish What It Started
Senator Lindsey Graham said that despite the Islamic Republic’s severe military and economic weakness, the regime has become “more bold and aggressive,” and that the United States must “finish the job.”
In a post published Monday on X, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham wrote: “I am fully confident that President Donald Trump completely understands the situation with the Iranian regime and will not continue to tolerate its refusal to negotiate in good faith alongside its bold acts of aggression in the Strait of Hormuz and across the region.”
The senior senator from South Carolina added: “It is absolutely clear to me that Iran has become extremely weak militarily and economically, yet at the same time they have become more daring and aggressive.”
Referring to what he called the possibility of a “short but decisive response” that could put the conflict back on the right path, he emphasized: “When it comes to the Iranian regime, it is essential that the United States negotiate from a position of strength and dominance.”
Stressing that America must finish what it started, Graham added: “I fear that continuing negotiations without a decisive response will prolong the conflict, create uncertainty among our allies, and embolden the terrorist regime in Iran.”
