Japan has firmly rejected accusations from China and Russia regarding its alleged “accelerated remilitarization.” During a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday, May 21, 2026, Japanese Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Masanao Ozaki stated that the joint criticism leveled by the two nations during their recent summit in Beijing is completely unfounded.
Ozaki counter-argued that China’s expanding regional military activities represent a serious concern for the international community and urged Beijing to change its behavior. Additionally, the Japanese government reiterated its call for Russia to immediately halt its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
