Vientiane Rescue Unit 1624 reported finding a man’s body on February 20, 2026, in a wooded area beside a road in Dong Phon Hae village, on the road to the Thanaleng warehouse in Dong Phosi village, Hat Yai Phong district, Vientiane.

A green Suzuki Smart motorcycle was found at the scene. The rescue unit announced the discovery to acquaintances and relatives via Facebook on February 21, around 10:00 PM.

This incident occurred just days after Mr. Khan went missing.

The motorcycle, as reported by the rescue unit, resembles the one Mr. Khan regularly used and had posted on social media. The license plate number is 0834, registered in Houa Phanh province, Mr. Khan’s hometown.

While we are confident the body is that of Mr. Khan, we are awaiting official confirmation from his family before we can issue a definitive statement regarding his identity.

This tragic event has caused great concern because:
▪️ The reported disappearance of Mr. Khan.
▪️ Witness testimony regarding the possibility that he may have been abducted on February 14th.
▪️ The atmosphere of fear and pressure that has developed among neighbors and relatives.
▪️ The timing of the incident, which coincides with the national elections.

If it is confirmed that Mr. Khan is missing, an urgent, transparent, and independent clarification is needed regarding the sequence of events between the date of his reported disappearance and the date his body was found.

The circumstances and cause of death in Laos: Several recent cases demonstrate that enforced disappearances and sudden deaths require thorough investigation, not silence.

We call on the Lao authorities to guarantee full transparency, allow independent observers to monitor this case, and for the international community to watch and pressure the Lao government to ensure a transparent and independent investigation.
